Eritrea
May,2025
Eritrea - most don’t know her name. This former Italian colony is located in the Horn of Africa. Eritrea gained its independence from Ethiopia in 1991. It’s a surprisingly clean country with super friendly people. Unfortunately, marred by poverty and US sanctions, life is hard.

It was Independence Day while I visited, and the people proudly celebrated. Eritrean flags blanketed the capital, music blasted, and independence day shirts were seen on many. I also went to the coastal town of Massawa. It has great potential for tourism but definitely needs some outside investment.
Tbsi for four, including beef prepared three different ways and fish.
Steam engine train I rode. It hadn't operated in ages.

Who knew Eritreans liked to bowl? My favorite was watching the little guy run down to manually set up the pins and put the ball on the track, so it would roll back!
